no format gallery ‘Opens’ it doors to local artists
no format gallery, located within the arches of London property developer Anthology’s Deptford Foundry development, is opening its doors to showcase the work of local painters with its annual Painting Open event this December.
Taking place from the 7th - 17th December, the Painting Open event, hosted by Second Floor Studios and Arts (SFSA), showcases the unique original artwork of 60 artists, from London and beyond. The artists’ work will be hanging in the no format gallery space for local residents and art enthusiasts to view and purchase an individual piece of art to hang in their homes, or give as a gift this Christmas.
Artists’ of the Painting Open will also be provided with the unique opportunity to win the ‘Painting Open Public Favourite’ award, whereby guests of the exhibition will be invited to share images of their favourite art pieces on Twitter and Instagram using #POPFave. The artist with the most votes will win a cash price of £200, courtesy of the SFSA team and one competition entrant, selected at random, will be in with a chance to win a £50 voucher for dinner in a Deptford venue, thanks to the Anthology Deptford Foundry team.
In the nature of a true open, the SFSA Painting Open has no submissions board, with all works being accepted for exhibition. The gallery makes 0% commission from works sold, meaning both the artist and the purchaser are able to enjoy being part of a process which truly seeks to support emerging artists in the capital.
Matthew Wood from SFSA said: “We’ve received immense interest for our Painting Open exhibition this year, with the 60 slots filling up in record time. We’re thrilled to see so many emerging artists looking to the no format gallery space as a real platform for showcasing their work, and we could not be happier to be working with such a diverse collection of talented artists.
“We are committed to helping artists find their way in the London art scene and giving them the leverage they need to make a name for themselves. As we enjoy hosting opens such as this, we are also busy with our Three100 fundraising, which will help us to secure affordable, permanent artists’ space in London to ensure we are able to provide means for artists in years to come.”
SFSA’s Three100 fundraising is gathering momentum, as the collective seeks to reach a total of £250,000 in order to secure its own space for future works. As part of this ongoing initiative, the SFSA is offering an exclusive December offer on Kim Vousden Tessellate prints, for those who quote ‘3DEC100’ at the time of purchase.
Ben Allen, Project Director of Anthology Deptford Foundry added: “As we round off what has been another successful year working with the Second Floor Studios team, we are thrilled to be supporting their last exhibition of the year. The Painting Open boasts an amazing collection of work and we are very proud to be supporting another great event. Deptford is known for its artistic flair and creativity, and shows such as this, hosted in partnership with SFSA, are the epitome of why the area has become such a hub for local artists.”
Anthology Deptford Foundry currently has a selection of one, two and three bed apartments with prices starting from £365,000. The development will also provide a mix of social rented and shared ownership homes whilst offering two new play spaces, a new public route and landscaped areas.
