Painting Open-s doors for aspiring Deptford creatives
Second Floor Studio and Arts’ (SFSA) no format gallery, part of Anthology’s Deptford Foundry development, was proud to host their second Painting Open event last month (7-17 December), welcoming over 250 people to enjoy the unique artwork of 62 artists.
The Open, which was celebrated for being entirely inclusive, provided aspiring artists from London and beyond with the platform to present their work to the public and even make some sales to those looking for an original art piece for their homes, or gift to a loved one this Christmas.
Anthology was proud to be supporting the event, as part of its ongoing support of SFSA and the many artists & makers that the team works with. SFSA doesn’t take a commission on sales, meaning the public has an opportunity to buy direct from the artist.
To encourage more local people to visit and celebrate the artwork on display, all visitors to the Painting Open were invited to share their favourite piece from the collection on social media, with the winning artist being awarded a cash prize, courtesy of SFSA. In the true spirit of giving in December, all who shared their favourite piece on social media were entered into a prize draw to win dinner in Deptford on Anthology.
The winner of the #POPFave (Painting Open Public Favourite) competition was Rod Kitson, who submitted his two oil paintings of brothers ‘Dan’ and ‘Christy’.
Matthew Wood from SFSA said: “Our Painting Open this year was a great success, building on the well-established history and legacy of previous events which saw over 250 visitors across the 10 days. We’d like to congratulate Rod Kitson for being crowned the Painting Open Public Favourite for 2017, and also commend all of the artists for an amazingly diverse range of work that was displayed throughout December. This year, we saw more submissions for the event than ever before, and we hope this interest continues to grow over coming years and future events, as it provides us the opportunity to support and promote more and more aspiring artists.”
Ben Allen, Project Director of Anthology Deptford Foundry commented: “The Painting Open event was the perfect way to wrap up another great year of partnership and collaboration between Anthology and SFSA. We were pleased to support the #POPfave competition by providing a night out in Deptford to one lucky winner, so that they too can get a feel for the creativity of the neighbourhood – one which we are continually proud to be a part of!”
Anthology Deptford Foundry currently has a selection of one, two and three bed apartments with prices starting from £365,000. The development will also provide a mix of social rented and shared ownership homes whilst offering two new play spaces, a new public route and landscaped areas.
