Chillaxed and eclectic September weekends in Hoxton
September is one of the best months to be in London. The still long late summer days allow plenty of time to explore and what better place than Hoxton to really enjoy the London vibe.
September is also the month when Open House London takes place (21-22 September), a London wide celebration of architecture. There’s plenty to see and do throughout Hackney, including some great #HoxtonHotspots making it a bumper month. So, from cats to cocktails, get exploring around Hoxton and check out a few of our suggestions to make the most of your weekends this month.
A must for all cat lovers, resident cats wander around the UK’s longest running Cat Café in Hoxton. Enjoy a drink, cake or a full High Tea service in their Wonderland-themed tearooms, surrounded by their wonderful rescue cats. Booking is advisable as it’s very popular, not surprisingly, but what a great place to spend some of your weekend.
Kingsland Basin is a beautiful community of canal boat dwellers that is worth exploring on any weekend but on Sunday 22nd September between 1pm and 5pm the community is taking part in the Open House 2019 event when you’ll be able to find out about what life on a canal boat is all about from the Canals in Hackney Users Group. Kingsland Basin, one of the Regents Canal’s basins, is only a short walk from the Hoxton Press development, along the tow path.
Sunday is when Columbia Road really comes alive and is transformed into a glorious riot of flowers and plants. As well as the flower sellers, many of whom grow their own plants, there are sixty independent boutiques of all sorts to mooch around, antiques, fashion, jewellery, interiors and more. Sunday is definitely funday down Columbia Road.
Hoxton Hall is a Grade II* listed 150-year-old Victorian Music Hall nestled in the heart of vibrant Hoxton and one of the only five surviving examples of a salon-style music hall. Nowadays they play host to a fantastic programme of theatre, music, cabaret, comedy, arts events and more throughout the year. On Saturday 21st September you can join them for a free tour of Hoxton Hall and look around the stunning venue as part of Open House 2019, at 11am, 12pm and 3pm while tea and cakes will be served in the theatre throughout the day.
If you still have the energy, then head to Nightjar for their new take on old style cocktails to round off your day of exploring. Sit and relax with some vintage jazz, blues, ragtime or swing, there will be something new to tempt you every weekend! A quintessential #HoxtonHotspot.
