#HaleYeah it’s Summertime!
Whether you’re a local, first-time visitor or just passing by, Tottenham Hale is the place to be this Summer. With a wide variety of events and exhibitions for all ages taking place, we can see why there is so much excitement around the community. Here’s our hand-picked list of some favourites!
The 150th anniversary of this gorgeous green space is being celebrated with a three-day fun-filled festival for all ages. From the 9th to 11th of August, anyone is welcome to pop along and enjoy the event packed full of music, games, street foods, face-painting and a World Village Market. Known as the ‘People’s Park’, this event aims to celebrate the effect that this park has had on bringing the whole community together.
Wondering where you can see some culturally rich exhibitions? If so, then the Bruce Castle Museum is for you! This exhibition shows stories from the Bruce Castle collections and the local community, celebrating the presence, significant contribution and lasting impact of Haringey’s Windrush Generation. Haringey has a proud history of welcoming migrants from all over the globe, and the exhibition conveys this long association with diversity, along with a compelling history of the Windrush generation.
This intriguing exhibition at the Bruce Castle Museum consists of a series of photographic portraits taken in Creighton Road Allotments last year by Danilo Murru, a Tottenham-based photographer and allotment holder. These photos beautifully reflect the diversity of Tottenham and capture the contrast between a hub of productive and sustainable pockets of land, and the dense urban environment that they are surrounded by. The simple aim of these images is to depict the coming together of different people from all walks of life, and we love the sound of that!
With one third of the Tottenham Hale community being under 25, the Youth Fest organised for young people and families is sure to hit the mark! At this youthful celebration there will be free and fun activities such as football, rugby, American football, music, plus other attractions, including a climbing wall and zorbing.
The Great Fete is a free Summer festival in August hosted by the ‘Ally Pally’ team at Alexandra Palace. Ally Pally works with a growing number of local charities and community groups to make the event happen. This action-packed event has an endless array of activities for everyone to get involved in around the 196 acres of stunning park grounds. We are particularly excited about the forestry education, learn to grow your own veg, theatre productions and tours, and of course the silent disco!
Truly let yourself relax this Summer by joining weekly watercolour painting sessions every Thursday at the Engine room within Hale Village. Beginner or pro, it doesn’t matter; they are happy to teach techniques to any level. Painting is said to be an excellent way of destressing so why not give it a try!
This Summer Living Under One Sun, a community hub based in Tottenham, is running a free activity camp for 8-14-year olds. This fun-filled camp will focus on outdoor activities and sports, with the aim of encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle amongst children. Running from the 31st July to 3rd August, the camp includes freshly prepared lunch for the participants as well!
