#HoxtonHotspots – the Mother of all Sundays!

Now that January and February (and snow!) are firmly behind us, there are definite signs of Spring on the horizon. One of these signs also resonates in the form of Mothering Sunday – the day of the year solely dedicated to celebrating Mothers and Grandmothers all over the country.

If you’re looking for something special and a bit different to celebrate the women in your life – or, if you’re already dropping some serious hints to your loved ones – we’ve got you covered. Hoxton, and the surrounding community of Hackney, has some unique and unforgettable offerings and venues perfect for celebrating with family. We’ve managed to whittle it down to our top five suggestions – if you could possibly choose!

Have you met Miss Jones?

There’s a reason why Mother’s Day always falls on a Sunday – and we think it’s because it is the perfect excuse to treat mum to a roast dinner with all the trimmings. Nothing quite says ‘thank you’ like a long, lazy afternoon surrounded by family, food and a few bubbles – and at the Jones Family Project restaurant, just a short walk from our Hoxton Press development, mum can enjoy one of the 30+ wines on offer, whilst you treat her to a three-course meal (for less than £20 per head!). And if that wasn’t enough to persuade you, we’d recommend you take a look at their cocktail list – and prepare to be wowed.

A Blooming marvelous Mother’s Day

If you’re looking to really splash the cash and show Mum what she means to you this year, look no further than Patron Bar à Vin’s flower bouquet arranging workshop, the perfect opportunity to make memories together over a handful of roses and a few glasses of fizz! Located just a short tube ride from Hoxton, this intimate wine bar venue is really mixing things up this year, offering you the opportunity to spend quality time with mum – even if she ends up taking her own flowers home at the end of it! What’s more, this fun and flower filled session runs early in the day from 10-12, meaning you’re perfectly placed to enjoy a roast dinner afterwards! If you fancy treating your mum to some blooms then we’d also recommend checking out Vela Flowers

Queen for a day

As many of us will agree, there is no shame in admitting that we’ve been outdone on the dancefloor by our mothers. If your mum is more Run DMC than cake and tea, we’ve found the perfect event, right in the heart of our Hoxton home. The Queen of Hoxton is one of the staple venues of the community, and one you’re sure to have heard of if you’re familiar with the area. On Mother’s Day, the team is giving its weekly Old Skool Sunday a twist, with DJs spinning all of mum’s favourite tracks until gone midnight – the perfect soundtrack to an evening of classic games and activities and nibbles from a menu to go wild for!

That’s better…

There’s no denying that mums are superheroes – juggling 101 commitments, dashing from here to there, and still on the other end of the phone with that all-important life advice when we need them. But even superheroes need a bit of R&R from time to time and the Spa Experience by Better, located just a short walk from Hoxton Press on Old Street, is the perfect venue for mum to put her feet up. A spa experience unlike any other, produced in collaboration with local councils and authorities to ensure that the spa is accessible and affordable for anyone and everyone. With a friendly staff team on hand to greet you and mum as you enter the stunning setting of the Ironmonger Baths, this is the perfect gift to say ‘thank you, Mum’.

Feeling a draught?

We love Hackney, not least because of the weird and wonderful venues that are popping up all over the community. Draughts is the encapsulation of why Hackney is a leader in ‘cool’ - as it now boasts its very own board game café - London’s very first board game café, no less. If you’re looking to shake the dice and shake up your Mother’s Day celebrations, why not get the whole family round the table for some great food, drinks and more board games than your parents’ attic. And besides which – a family game of Monopoly taken place in a public place is far less likely to result in tears (…we hope!).
