Meet the artists: The Pattern Room
With the commercial space of our Deptford Foundry development, being completed and handed over to Second Floor Studio & Arts, we have been getting to know our new artistic neighbours that are now calling Deptford their new home as they set up their new studio space.
Fran Mcgourty, who studied Fashion Design and is now a pattern cutter at The Pattern Room tells us more about the company.
Can you tell us a little more about The Pattern Room and what you love about the craft?
The Pattern Room is a pattern cutting and sampling studio which is based in Casting House on Moulding Lane in Deptford. We can provide everything to prepare for production manufacturing including manual pattern cutting, pattern amendments, and fitting.
We also offer one to one pattern cutting lessons for beginners. In these sessions you will learn how to create a pattern for a basic garment, along with creating a toile and making any pattern amendments.
The thing we love about our craft is being able to work with so many different people and different types of product, from Childrenswear, Womenswear, Menswear and soft accessories. One day we could be making a standard shirt and the next on a more intricate piece such as an asymmetrical dress with 10 zips.
What exciting projects are you working on at the moment?
We are currently working on a collection for a start-up womenswear brand which has been really great. The brand has designed their own prints and they have been so much fun to work with.
I can’t mention the brand at this stage, but they will feature on our Instagram once they have launched so make sure you are following us @thepatternroomlondon to follow our journey!
What are The Pattern Room’s ambitions?
Now we are settling in our new studios in Deptford, we are looking to expand the business and hire more people.
Do you live locally/in Deptford? If so, are there any recommendations you can share for visiting in the area?
I actually live in Hoxton, so with the area new to me, I’m looking forward to exploring the local haunts. I’ve heard that the Market Yard is worth a visit, so I’ll certainly be heading down there.
