Summer is finally on its way, and with the brighter and warmer weather, there’s never been a better time to get outdoors and get fit!
If you’re ready to get your sweat on and pound the streets, then check out Virgin Sport’s Hackney Festival of Fitness at Hackney Marshes. The festival takes place between 17th and 19th May, and activities include Reggae Robotics, Paddleboard Racing and a Half Marathon.
Here’s some of the top reasons to put on your running shoes and into the festival spirit.
1 – It’s an actual festival where you’ll get in shape!
Forget Glastonbury, Leeds or Reading. Yes, we love the music and the beer, but the hangover isn’t so great!
The Festival of Fitness still has the party atmosphere, with DJs performing from a main stage and even an open-air cinema. But instead of waking up to a hangover, you’ll be feeling refreshed and ready to get into shape.
2 – You can try something new!
Have you ever tried a Plastic Patrol Stand-Up Paddleboard Expedition or Rise and Shine Buddah Yoga? Neither have we.
You’ll be able to experience paddling up the wonderful Lee Navigation whilst cleaning up the waterways and discover the enormous benefits of meditation.
3 – You get to race!
Think you’re a top athlete? Then the Festival will allow you to test yourself. Friday is dedicated to warming up, Saturday focuses on East London’s best workouts, and Sunday is competition day.
This includes the Hackney Half, where you’ll be up against other athletes as you run through Mare Street, the famous Town Hall and cross over twelve canals and rivers.
If long distance isn’t your thing, then you can also participate in the sprint competition, followed by an awards ceremony.
4 – There’s always a good cause to support
The festival supports various good causes and 25% of runners across Virgin races raise money for over 400 charities.
Cancer Research UK is the lead charity partner for the Hackney Half, so there’s always an opportunity to support a noble cause through this charity or various other charity partners.
