#DiscoverDeptford - Jars Bar: Deptford's coolest new cocktail bar

Deptford is renowned for its abundance of quirky eateries and cool hang outs so it’s no wonder Nikita Stepanov chose it at as the perfect place for his pop-up cocktail bar to have a permanent home.

We recently caught up with Nikita to find out more about Jars Bar and the delights on offer.

Can you tell us about Jars Bar and the history of the business?

Jars Bar is a cocktail bar specialising in craft cocktails.

I finished bar tending school in London and wanted to set up my own business to utilise my skills, so along with a co-founder, we set up a mobile bar business and shortly after decided we wanted a permanent bar, so established Jars Bar in Deptford.

We looked at many locations, looking for a traditional brick work industrial style building and eventually settled on Deptford Market Yard – the location for us is perfect! It has all the nice brick work and the industrial feel we were after and it had all the licensing already to go, so it was easy for us to open and welcome customers pretty swiftly. It’s also a great location with the railway station right next door and there are loads of businesses around to form our customer base.

We use only the freshest ingredients right down to the lemon and lime juice; it’s freshly squeezed and never from concentrate. We also make our own craft spirits like vodka infusions, taking seasonal berries infused with vodka and present them as shots or incorporate them into our cocktails.

We’ve also recently started producing our own gin in the bar!

What services/ experiences do you offer?

Along with the array of cocktails to enjoy, we offer cocktail making experiences, we can accommodate up to eight people per session and we teach you how to mix and shake your own cocktails to then enjoy.  We provide all the ingredients and professional equipment to ensure you can become a cocktail master!

We’re also planning on setting up a gin school so people can come in and make their own bottle of gin to take home so watch this space.

We’ll also be crafting seasonal cocktails for the upcoming festive season so make sure to pay us a visit in the coming weeks.

What’s your most popular drink?

It’s the Lady Marmalade – gin, elderflower cordial, lemon juice and grapefruit marmalade, it’s very sweet but sour at the same time!

What’s your favourite drink?

For me, I’d have to choose our Sweet Manhattan which is a dry whisky, sweet vermouth and angostura bitters all served up in a martini glass.

What do you love most about Deptford?

There are so many creative people in the area, it has a really good feel about it. There’s also lots of movement and new businesses, it’s very up and coming.

People describe it as second Shoreditch and I’d have to agree, thanks to the creativity from the locals, visitors and various exhibitions like Deptford X which is amazing to have on our doorstep.

What or where else would you recommend people visit when in Deptford?

The Tapas Room for sure, they have a fantastic selection of wine and nibbles.

The Tap Room has a fine selection of craft ales and Marcella’s has some incredible food. Why not join the many and visit us for some pre dinner cocktails before heading to Marcella’s?
