#HoxtonHotspots – A New Year in Hackney

The New Year and with January well under way, a time when we all like to make a fresh start, get fitter, try something a bit different or just create some more me-time.

So, we’ve explored some of the activities and things to do in and around Hoxton to help kick start a new you and they’re all great for improving our well-being!

Sing out loud!

Have you ever wanted to channel your inner Michael Buble? Hackney One Voice is a community Choir for people of all ages (0 to 100!) and you won’t need any prior experience; everyone is welcome and it’s free to join. They meet every Saturday during term time from 10.30am-12.30pm at Hackney Central Library and refreshments are provided. What a way to start a weekend and join the singing revolution! hackneyonevoice@gmail.com

Go blue and green to get in shape

Exercising in nature has become all the rage with open water swimming growing in popularity in particular. If you’ve ever been tempted to give it a try then London Fields Lido, a 50m Olympic size, outdoor swimming pool is open all year round and it’s heated! The swimming pool has lane swimming available all day, swimming lessons for children and adults, one-to-one swimming lessons and advice and instruction for members and non-members during their swimfit sessions. There’s also a café for a warming drink after your swim. Take the plunge!

Make this new year all fun and games

Who doesn’t love board games? Board game cafes are popping up everywhere including Draughts in Hackney which is a haven for anyone who would love to get back into playing their favourite board games. From A Game of Thrones to Zombie Dice there will be a new or old game to try morning, afternoon or evening.

Meet your next favourite book

Did you promise yourself that this year you’ll read more? Join a book group and you’ll have no excuse not to indulge your love of reading. In the Hoxton area, Hackney Central Library runs the Reading Lane Book Group which meets on the third Wednesday of the month, 6.15pm-7.30pm. Or head over to Shoreditch Library on the 2nd Thursday of every month from 6.30pm-7.45pm. Both welcome new members.
