Return to dining in Deptford

The streets of Deptford have been providing us with some of the most mouth-watering culinary experiences that South East London has to offer. Being close to the Deptford riverside, lined with restaurants and bars, and just a few minutes’ walk from Deptford Market Yard, our Anthology Deptford Foundry is located in a prime street food destination.

Now that restrictions have eased and we are able to be seated inside our favourite foodie establishments, we’ve rounded up the top five must visit restaurants in Deptford. From the glorious Italian restaurant Marcella to Sunday roasts at Dirty Apron and Buster Mantis’ legendary Jamaican food.

     1. Marcella

First up is Marcella the sister restaurant of Artusi in Peckham. This restaurant took it’s time in reopening after lockdown to ensure the best safety measures but it has certainly been worth the wait! The menu celebrates fresh, simple, authentic dishes from Italy and the Mediterranean, with a strictly all Italian wine list.

    2. The Tapas Room

The Tapas Room offers an amazing selection of tapas, perfect if you’re in the mood for a Spanish style reunion brunch with friends. Each dish on the menu is bursting with flavour that is great alongside a glass of wine. Even though you can now be seated indoors, don’t forget about their wonderful alfresco dining option. There’s nothing better than eating tapas outdoors on a warm summer evening, you might even feel as though you’ve managed to jet away abroad!

    3. Dirty Apron

Dirty Apron is one of our favourites, located under the atmospheric railway arches at Deptford Market Yard, serving up a seasonal modern British menu that changes every week. They are open all day for breakfast, coffee, brunch, lunch and dinner, with generous roasts on Sundays with all the usual trimmings.

    4. Buster Mantis

This establishment is all about authentic Jamaican dishes. At Buster Mantis you will find plenty of creative cocktails as well as local beers from independent beer companies. They source most of their ingredients locally and inside you will find a bar, café and eatery, and a separate section working as a gallery and creative space, hosting regular events, art exhibitions and screenings.

    5. Stockton Bar

Stockton Bar, which is in fact Buster Mantis’ little brother, offers a varied menu of delicious food including tapas dishes and amazingly creative vegan dishes. Their brunch menu is not to be missed which you can enjoy alongside your morning coffee. This establishment comes to life at night and is known as one of the best cocktail spots in the area.
